Full bio

I am a Faculty Lecturer in finance and economics at the Shidler College of Business, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where I teach undergraduate, MBA and executive MBA courses in Honolulu, Vietnam and online. I also teach sustainable agriculture entrepreneurship at Windward Community College.

I teach from practice. I was a trader and market-maker at Lehman Brothers and then Barclays Capital in New York, on the desk responsible for all U.S.-listed Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). There I priced and traded international and commodity ETFs, managed real-time risk on more than $1 billion in inventory, and built pricing and carry-arbitrage algorithms. I later served as founder and Chief Investment Officer of Springline Capital, a boutique Registered Investment Advisor in the British Virgin Islands, and as Director and Portfolio Manager at OIA Ltd. Before my MBA, I was a Marketing Manager at Advent Software, where I launched its global solution for hedge funds and offshore fund administrators.

Every course project I teach is built around one problem: AI now drafts the first pass that junior analysts used to build, and that first pass was where they learned judgment. My students frame the question, specify what a correct model must do, build it with AI, audit the result and defend the decision, all in the open on GitHub.

I hold an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Biology from Trinity College, and I was a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder from 2004 to 2011. After surviving Hurricane Irma in the British Virgin Islands, I founded Greenshoot.org, a disaster-recovery registry that connected survivors with donors. I am also establishing a regenerative organic food forest on former pastureland.
